Zero interest rates do not stimulate the economy — they amputate the future.
The price of time is the interest rate. When central planners suppress it to zero or below, they signal every producer: saving is irrational, waiting is punished, spending is mandatory. Eugen Böhm-Bawerk identified time preference as the foundation of capital formation — the willingness to defer consumption in exchange for a larger future return. ZIRP destroys that calculus. It does not end the cycle of boom and bust; it guarantees the next one is worse.
